Lockdown is distressing, Covid is suffocating
The last year has been a hard time for people in India and abroad. The fear of COVID ripped us inside out, but it was also tough to stay indoors without the security of a job. Several companies decided to shut stop their businesses which also meant that people had zero salaries to manage their monthly expenses. The vast cities wore a deserted look that mirrored the absence of daily activities. It was a distressing glimpse of a place that had an active life in the pre-pandemic years. The sight of empty roads and closed shops were uncommon before the COVID, except during bandhs. COVID was a different experience for a vast majority. Many have never spent long hours in their houses. The pandemic gave time to reflect on ourselves, to spend considerable time with family, to learn new things - at the expense of our welfare. We speak volumes about staying hopeful all our lives, but when we stand near to reality, we realise how hopeless it is to tell people to hope all the time....
