Let's watch these women-centric films/series

While you spent most of your time worrying about Coronavirus, you can't help notice the rise in the number of series/movies you watch these days. As new platforms emerge, we see more diversity in content. For every Kabir Singh, there is a Chhapaak, though box office may paint a different picture.
It is a welcome change that more women-centric narratives are taking place. They make you reflect upon certain practices/patterns without a judgemental eye. Here is a no spoiler list of six women-centric films/web series which offer an interesting watch.



Unbelievable
Where to watch: Netflix
This Netflix series was released last year and what a refreshing watch it was! Unbelievable is a recreation of a 2015 incident which happened in Washington. The incident led to a Pulitzer Prize-winning report which shook the world. The characters and the physical and mental agony they have gone through may stay with you after you finish watching.






Sillu Karuppatti
Where to watch: Netflix
A telling tale of four generations, treaded by a common emotion - love! This is a slice of life film with relatable characters and the easiness with which it narrates certain issues may bring a smile to your face. A delightful watch with four lovely women essaying major roles.





Dia
Where to watch: Amazon Prime
This Kannada film is not for the light-hearted ones even though there are parts of the film you may relish. Dia is brilliantly written with emotional intensity. The female lead, Dia and her struggles in life may occupy a space inside you too. Kushi, who played the titular role of Dia was a treat to watch.


Panga
Where to watch: Hotstar
An inspiring story of a kabaddi player, Panga holds its heart in the right place. Director Ashwini Iyer Tiwari is successful in making a feel-good sports drama with rich content. The husband-wife relation and Kangana's journey are relatable and make it a good watch with family.




Game Over
Where to watch: Netflix
Ashwin Sharavanan's multilingual film, starring Taapsee Pannu is an edge of the seat thriller available on Netflix. Game Over is an engrossing film. Watch out for its hidden details for a better experience.






 Sethum Aayiram Pon
Where to watch: Netflix
A heartening tale set in a rural Tamil Nadu about the bittersweet relation of a grandma and her granddaughter, this film is a decent watch.

  March 15, 2026. I was walking towards Kanhangad on a hot Sunday evening when I met a smart woman. She was selling fish while sitting confidently at the nearby bus stop. She looked close to 50, was wearing a nice saree, with matching gold jewelry, and a bindi that suited her face. Beside her, there was a cat who resembled Pinki, a street cat that I have been interacting with since 2023. I have this habit of talking to people who are simple by nature. So, I started talking to Aunty as the bus was supposed to reach only by 5:15, and we had 30 minutes left on the clock. We initially started noticing each other when I touched that cat. “Does she have any children?” I asked Aunty. “They all got killed in different accidents,” she replied. എഴുത്തിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ച ഒരാൾ

മലയാളത്തിൽ എന്തെങ്കിലും കുത്തികുറിച്ചിട്ട് മൂന്ന് വർഷമായി! ബ്ലോഗിന്റെ കാര്യമാണ് പറഞ്ഞത്. ദുൽഖർ സൽമാൻ മലയാളത്തിൽ അവസാനമായി നായകനായ കിംഗ് ഓഫ് കൊത്ത റിലീസ് ചെയ്‌തിട്ടും മൂന്ന് കൊല്ലം കഴിഞ്ഞു.  എന്നാൽ രണ്ട് വ്യത്യാസങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്. 1) ദുൽഖറിന്റെ പുതിയ മലയാള സിനിമ അയാം ഗെയിം റിലീസ് ആവാൻ പ്രേക്ഷകർ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. 2). എന്റെ കുറിപ്പ് വായിക്കാൻ രണ്ടാമതൊരാൾ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുണ്ടാവില്ല. ബ്ലോഗിൽ എഴുതുന്നവ ഇൻസ്റാഗ്രാമിലോ ഫേസ്ബുക്കിലോ വാട്സാപ്പിലോ സ്റ്റാറ്റസ് ആയി ചേർക്കാത്തത് മൂലം അവ ഇറങ്ങുന്നത് ആരും അറിയാറുമില്ല.    2023 മുതൽ 2026 വരെ അഞ്ച് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പോസ്റ്റുകൾ എഴുതി. ഇതിന് മുൻപ് കോവിഡ് കാലത്ത് ദിവസം രണ്ട് ബ്ലോഗ്പോസ്റ്റുകൾ ഫോൺ കീപാഡ് ഉപയോഗിച്ച് എഴുതി. അന്ന് ദിവസവും ഡയറി എഴുതിയിരുന്നു. അന്നത്തെ  എന്റെ ഭാഷയ്ക്ക് ശുദ്ധി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട്, "വായിൽ തോന്നിയത് കോതയ്ക്ക് പാട്ട്" എന്ന വിധേന എന്റെ ഭാഷ  മലിനപ്പെട്ടെന്ന് എന്റെയുള്ളിലെ വിമർശകൻ പറയുന്നു.   എഴുതാൻ വിഷയം കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത് കുഴപ്പിക്കുന്ന സമസ്യയല്ല. പക്ഷെ, എഴുതി ഫലിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിവും ക്ഷമയും വേണം. ഒറ്റയെഴുത്തിൽ ആൾക്കാരെ...
