When they bid final goodbye!

What could be the factors that lead a person to end their lives using their own hands? Many of us might have gone through this thought of putting an end to our sufferings by saying goodbye to everything. Suicidal thoughts are common in a scenario where everything is becoming more and more self-centred.
People look for empathy and kindness. Some of the fortune ones may find it with the help of their friends, peers or family. But there is an increasing number who don't receive the much-deserved attention from anyone. An overwhelming sense of negativity and hatred might be running through their head.
Some of them could have had a troubled past. Some may think that they are not living up to the expectations of the general lot. Some of them may also do so to get rid of some distressing memories that they are holding.
What is the role of society, something which you and I are part of? Society can do multiple things. It can either trigger such thoughts but can also restrain a person from committing it. How? Take the first instance. We as society has been collectively putting the load of expectations among schoolchildren. Take the number of student suicides in the country. Does the data sound worrying to you? At least it worries me.

Why some of us end our lives? Parental/peer pressure, lack of self-worth, bullying, isolation - The reasons are so many. Our societal institutions, family, religious centres, educational institutions have a bigger role to make the world a slightly better place for living. But are they doing so in general? How long do we continue to think that prayers, motivational talks or counselling will work in each case? Are we identifying the root cause of the problem?

Dear parent, instead of rushing your ward to the nearest psychologist, why don't you observe s/he for a few days with a non-judgemental eye? Why is it always necessary to convey to them that you are afraid? If you think that it will work, let me tell you that it won't. Why don't you spent more time with them or let the person spent time with the ones they want?
Dear schoolteachers, children are tired of hearing the same advice again and again. Sometimes, when you reach out, they may not share it with you at all. At those times, can we be more patient with each one?
Dear religious preachers, not everyone believes in superpowers. Many of your sayings are not relatable anymore to many and hence could not work with all. Why don't you develop a stand which is of more relevance to the current world?
Dear friends and comrades, can we spend more time to understand the person and be the one they can trust?
Dear dad and mom, why do you insist on them meeting the expectations all the time? Can we make the home a happier and relaxing space?
Schools and universities, in addition to providing quality education, don't you think it is your responsibility to develop sound and strong minds for society instead of doubling the pressure on many occasions?
What can we all do? Let us learn to hear each other. Let us learn to understand each other. Let us learn what to speak and what not to speak to each other. Let us learn to love each other.
