Yes, music can kill our time. Not just our time, it can freeze time and space. A beautiful composition has the fine ability to bring back some past memories. We flow through a bygone period that may never return into our lives.  Some songs take us into a timeline. In the internet age, it is easier to listen to favourite songs. There was a time we waited a week or more to listen to a five-minute cinema song. We had to wait another seven days to get a glimpse of that song once again. But we never complained. We were children and songs were our enjoyment.  I used to wake up listening to the cassette records of village temple. As the records stop, my father would start the tape recorder. He would place the cinema cassette in the recorder. A cinema cassette compiles a set of pre-recorded songs from a film or a collection from different movies. Some songs mean a lot. ഈ കുറിപ്പെഴുതുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് നിറയെ ആലോചിച്ചു. പാട്ടിനെ 'ആഴത്തിൽ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്ന' ഒരാൾക്ക് ഒരു പാട്ടുകാരിയോട് മാത്രം കൂടുതൽ ഇഷ്ടം തോന്നുമോ? പക്ഷെ, ചില ഇഷ്ടങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒരു കാരണം ഉണ്ടായിക്കൊള്ളണം എന്നില്ലല്ലോ. കെ എസ് ചിത്രയെ ആരാധിക്കാൻ കാരണം കണ്ടെത്തേണ്ടതുണ്ടോ? അവരുടെ ഒരു ഗാനം കേൾക്കാത്ത ദിവസങ്ങൾ നമ്മൾ പലരുടെയും ജീവിതത്തിൽ വളരെ ചുരുക്കമാണ്. നാല് പതിറ്റാണ്ടിലേറെയായി പല ഭാഷകളിൽ മുഴങ്ങിക്കേൾക്കുന്ന ആ ഭാവഗായികയുടെ പതിനായിരക്കണക്കിന്  ആസ്വാദകരിലൊരാളാണ് ഇതെഴുതുന്നത്.  ചിത്രാമ്മയുടെ പാട്ടുകൾ എനിക്ക് നന്മയിലേക്കുള്ള തിരിച്ചുപോക്കാണ്. മനസ്സിലെ എല്ലാ വിഷമങ്ങളും അലിഞ്ഞിറങ്ങുന്ന പ്രതീതിയാണ് ചില ഗാനങ്ങൾ കേൾക്കുമ്പോൾ തോന്നുന്നത്. ഈയ്യടുത്തു 'കാർമുകിൽ വർണ്ണന്റെ ചുണ്ടിൽ' വീണ്ടും കേൾക്കാനിടയായി. ഹൃദയം കൊണ്ട് പാടിയിരിക്കുന്ന ആ ഗാനം എന്നെ കുറച്ചുനേരം മൗനവാനാക്കി.  "വീണുറങ്ങുന്നൊരു ശ്രീരാഗമേ നിന്നെ പുൽകിയുണർത്താൻ മറന്നു കണ്ണൻ" കാവ്യസുന്ദരമായ വരികൾക്ക് ചിത്രാമ്മയുടെ പൂങ്കുയിൽനാദം ചേരുമ്പോൾ എന്തൊരു മനോഹാരിതയാണ്. അമ്പലനടയിൽ ഈശ്വരനെ തൊഴുതുനിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ മനസ്സിന് തോന്നുന്ന കുളിർമ്മയും, അനുഭൂതിയു...

ഞാനൊരു വലിയ പാട്ടുസ്നേഹിയാണ്. എനിക്ക് എല്ലാത്തരം സംഗീതവും ഇഷ്ടമാണ്. എനിക്ക് നന്നായി പാടാനറിയില്ല, ഞാൻ പാട്ട് അഭ്യസിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. അമ്മ ചൊല്ലിത്തന്ന  കീർത്തനങ്ങൾ കുറച്ചൊക്കെ അറിയാം. അമ്മയുടെ താരാട്ട്പാട്ട് കേട്ടാണ് ഞാൻ വളർന്നത്. എന്നെ ഉറക്കാൻ പാടിയ 'ഓമനത്തിങ്കൾക്കിടാവോ', 'അമ്പാടി തന്നിലൊരുണ്ണി' പോലെയുള്ളവ എൻ്റെ മനസ്സിൽ ഒരു നേരിയ ഓർമ്മയായി നിലനിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.  അഞ്ച് വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ മുതൽ ചിത്രഹാർ, ചിത്രഗീതം പരിപാടികൾക്കായി വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച്ച എത്താൻ കാത്തിരിക്കുമായിരുന്നു. സൂര്യ ടിവിയിൽ ശനിയാഴ്ച്ചകളിൽ 3 മണിക്ക് സംപ്രേക്ഷണം ചെയ്ത യുവർ ചോയിസിൻറെ സ്ഥിരം പ്രേക്ഷകനായിരുന്നു.  അന്നാളുകളിൽ അച്ഛന് കാസറ്റ് റെക്കോർഡിങ് ഒരു കമ്പമായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ നാട്ടിലെ ചില നല്ല പാട്ടുകാരുടെ ശബ്ദം വീട്ടിലിരുന്നു കേൾക്കാൻ സാധിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.പുതിയ സിനിമകളിലെ ഗാനങ്ങൾ ഒരു കാസറ്റിൽ സംയോജിപ്പിച്ചു എത്തിക്കുന്ന കാസറ്റുകടകൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ നാട്ടിൽ അന്ന് സജീവമായിരുന്നു. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം അതുവഴി നടന്നപ്പോൾ പൂട്ടിക്കിടന്ന  കാസറ്റ്‌ കടയും, ചുവരിലെ ചിത്രങ്ങളും,  പഴയ എഴുത്തുകുത്തുകളും ശ്രദ്ധയിൽ പെട്ടു. സ്കൂൾ നാളുകൾ...

ഉയരങ്ങളുടെ കൊടുമുടിയിൽ നിൽക്കുമ്പോഴും എളിമ വിടാതെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന, ഓരോ ചുവടുവെയ്പ്പിലും നമ്മളെ അത്ഭുതപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന ചില മനുഷ്യരുണ്ട്. എ ആർ റഹ്‌മാൻ എന്ന സംഗീതജ്ഞൻ കൈവെയ്ക്കാത്ത മേഖലകൾ ഇല്ല എന്നുതന്നെ പറയാം. മൂന്ന് പതിറ്റാണ്ട് കാലമായി തുടർന്നുപോകുന്ന സിനിമാസംഗീതജീവിതത്തിൽ  അദ്ദേഹത്തിനെത്തേടി ദേശീയ/രാജ്യാന്തര അംഗീകാരങ്ങൾ പലതും വന്നു. അവയെ സ്നേഹത്തോടെ സ്വീകരിച്ചശേഷം റഹ്‌മാൻ തൻ്റെ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട തൊഴിൽ തുടർന്നുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. നേട്ടങ്ങളിൽ മതിമറക്കുന്ന റഹ്‌മാനെ ഒരിക്കലും കാണാൻ കഴിയില്ല.  സ്വതവേ മിതഭാഷിയായ ഒരു വ്യക്തിയാണ് അദ്ദേഹം. പ്രശസ്ത interviewer കരൺ താപ്പർ ഒരിക്കൽ പറഞ്ഞു "റഹ്‌മാനെ  ഇന്റർവ്യൂ ചെയ്യാനാണ് ഏറ്റവും പ്രയാസം. ഒരു മൂളലിനപ്പുറം പല ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്കും ഉത്തരം കിട്ടാറില്ല. ധാരാളം റീടേക്കുകൾ പോകേണ്ടിവന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. എൻ്റെ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം എന്തുത്തരമാണ് നൽകിയത് എന്ന് മനസിലാകാതെ ഇരുന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്." പൊതുവെ പറഞ്ഞാൽ ബഹിർമുഖരുടെ ലോകമാണ് മീഡിയ, എന്റർറ്റെയിന്മെന്റ് വ്യവസായങ്ങൾ. പുതിയ ബന്ധങ്ങൾ  സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നവരുടെ, തൻ്റെ നേട്ടങ്ങൾ ഇരട്ടിയായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നവരുടെ ഒരു പ്രപഞ...

What makes Priyanka NK, a softly-spoken 23-year-old from Chennai, a special talent? She is the one who sings with emotion and passion. The easiness with which she sings makes us melt into the song. Priyanka's rendition of Chinna Chinna Vaanakkuyil, a timeless classic from Mounaragam  is one such special song. Some songs are special as they take us into many hidden memories like time-machines. When we hear them, we recall certain moments in life. That makes some of them more closer to our hearts. I have not really explored western music.
