"അൻപ് (സ്നേഹം) അല തല്ലുന്ന പുഴ, അതാണ് അമ്പലപ്പുഴ," അയൽക്കൂട്ട പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിൻ്റെ ഉപജ്ഞാതാവായ ജി പങ്കജാക്ഷക്കുറുപ്പിൻ്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ഈ നാടിന് നന്നായി യോജിക്കുന്നു. ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയുടെ തെക്ക് 14 കിലോമീറ്റർ മാറി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ചെറുപട്ടണമാണ് അമ്പലപ്പുഴ. ഞാൻ ജനിച്ചുവളർന്ന കഞ്ഞിപ്പാടത്ത് നിന്നും അമ്പലപ്പുഴയിലേക്ക് മൂന്നര കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരമാണ് ഉള്ളത്.  അമ്പലപ്പുഴ എന്ന് കേട്ടാൽ ആദ്യം മനസ്സിൽ വരിക പ്രസിദ്ധമായ അമ്പലപ്പുഴ പായസത്തിൻ്റെ രുചിയാണ്. പല നാടുകളിൽ നിന്നും ഭക്‌തർ എത്തുന്ന അമ്പലപ്പുഴ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകളാണ് തൃക്കൈവെണ്ണയും, പാൽപ്പായസവും. എന്താണ് ആ  രുചിയുടെ രഹസ്യം? അമ്പലത്തിലെ മണിക്കിണറിലെ വെള്ളമെന്ന് ചിലർ പറയുന്നു, രഹസ്യമായ പാചകരീതിയെന്ന് മറ്റു ചിലർ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെടുന്നു. എന്ത് തന്നെയായാലും പായസത്തിന് പെരുത്ത് ആരാധകരുണ്ട്. പായസം തയ്യാറാക്കാൻ ദിവസവും വേണ്ട പാലെത്തിക്കുന്നത് അവിടെ അടുത്ത് താമസിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷീരകർഷകരാണ്. രാവിലെ പതിനൊന്ന് മണി കഴിഞ്ഞാണ് പാൽപ്പായസവിതരണം. അതിമധുരമാണ് പായസത്തിനെ വേറിട്ട് നിർത്തുന്നത്. ചെമ്പാവരി അരിയുടെ തവിട്ട് കലർന്ന നിറമാണ്. ഒരു ഗ്ലാസ് കുടിച്...

I walked to the construction site. The new lecture hall is being set up from last year or so. My friends were waiting there. They shared a piece of news. Our initiative, EachOneTeachone is left with no children to teach on the campus. The news came unexpectedly to us. Perhaps we didn’t pay much attention when kids went to their native places. We were joyful they got enrolled in native schools run by the government where they’ll get more opportunities to learn. The construction site and people have a special affiliation to our initiative. It was the initial place where we began teaching. It formed roots while teaching here. It had become an evening routine for some of us to go there and see the children smiling.  Since January semester, Jyothi was the only child for teaching at the construction site. പരീക്ഷയിൽ മുഴുവൻ മാർക്ക് നേടുന്ന വിദ്യാർത്ഥി, സെഞ്ച്വറി നേടുന്ന ക്രിക്കറ്റ് താരം, ഒരു മില്യൺ വ്യൂസ് കിട്ടുന്ന സിനിമാഗാനം, ____ ശമ്പളം കിട്ടുന്ന തൊഴിലാളി, പിറന്നാൾ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന പ്രിയതാരം. ഇവരിൽ പൊതുവായ ഘടകം എന്താണെന്ന് ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചോ? നമ്പർ, അഥവാ എണ്ണക്കണക്ക്. സ്റ്റാറ്റിസ്റ്റീഷ്യന്മാർ പൊതുവെ പറയുന്ന ഒരു വാചകമുണ്ട് - 'അക്കങ്ങൾ കളവു പറയില്ല.' ആദ്യനോട്ടത്തിൽ വളരെ ശരിയെന്ന് തോന്നുന്ന ഒരു ചിന്തയാണത്.  അക്കങ്ങളെ തങ്ങളുടെ താൽപ്പര്യങ്ങൾക്ക് വളച്ചൊടിക്കാൻ കഴിയും എന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ അടുത്ത കാലത്തെ ജിഡിപി കണക്കുകൾ നോക്കിയാൽ മതിയാകും. രാജ്യത്തിൻ്റെ വളർച്ചാനിരക്ക് താഴാതെ പോകാൻ കണക്കെടുപ്പിൽ ചില വ്യത്യാസങ്ങൾ വരുത്തിച്ചേർത്തു. ആളുകളുടെ ജീവിതനിലവാരത്തിൽ കാര്യമായ മാറ്റം വരുത്താതെ രാജ്യം വളർച്ചയുടെ പാതയിലാണെന്ന് എഴുതിച്ചേർത്തു. പ്രതിമാസം കുറഞ്ഞത് അൻപതിനായിരം രൂപ വരുമാനമുള്ളവരാണ് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ മധ്യവർഗം എന്ന ധനമന്ത്രി നിർമ്മലയുടെ വാദവും, മൽസ്യത്തൊഴിലാളികൾ മധ്യവർഗവിഭാഗത്തിൽപെടുന്നത് മൂലം പ്രത്യേക പാക്കേജിന് അർഹരല്ല എന്ന വിലയിരുത്തലും വല്ലാതെ അത്ഭുതപ്പെടുത്തിയ ചില കണക്കുകളാണ്. ഇതേ കാരണം ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയാണല്...

We, ordinary humans, have a special curiosity towards celebrities and their private life. Media reports about their personal happenings are partly influenced by the reader/viewer interest. It reflects on the number of hits an article gets in cyberspace. As part of my media job, I got the chance to interact with some famous people. Before entering this field, my first big opportunity was to meet Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. It was the 15th of October, 2009, Kalam sir's birthday. Dr Kalam stayed at Alappuzha Guest House to take part in a school function. My uncle, who was a Sub Inspector asked me and my cousin sister to come along. I went with my autograph book. He signed it after giving a bright, broad smile. My uncle had arranged a cameraman. I disliked the idea of framing it and displaying in my house. I reasoned with my parents but they had other plans. നമ്മുടെ ലോകത്ത് ആകെ കറുപ്പ്, വെളുപ്പ് എന്നീ രണ്ട് നിറങ്ങൾ മാത്രമാണെങ്കിൽ എങ്ങനെയിരിക്കും? സിനിമാസംവിധായകർ പറയും - "ജീവിതത്തിൻ്റെ കയ്പ്പൻ യാഥാർഥ്യങ്ങൾ സ്‌ക്രീനിൽ കാട്ടാൻ ബ്ളാക്ക് ആൻഡ് വൈറ്റിലും നല്ല നിറം വേറെയില്ല." ദുരിതങ്ങൾ മാത്രം നിറഞ്ഞതാണോ നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതം? പല അനുഭവങ്ങളുടെ കൂടിച്ചേരലാണ് നമ്മുടെ ഓരോ ദിനവും. അതുകൊണ്ട്, പല വർണ്ണങ്ങൾ ഉള്ളതാണ് അതിന് ഭംഗി.  കേവലം കാഴ്ചാപരമായ സുഖം മാത്രമാണോ നിറങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്നത്? അത് നമ്മളെ സൗന്ദര്യത്തെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്നു. പ്രകൃതിയെ നാം അറിയുന്നത് നമ്മുടെ അഞ്ച് ഇന്ദ്രിയങ്ങൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ആണല്ലോ. അവയിൽ കണ്ണ് കൊണ്ട് കാണുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങൾ (visual memory) മനസ്സിൽ കൂടുതൽ നാൾ നിൽക്കുമെന്ന് പല പഠനങ്ങളും വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. നിറമില്ലാത്ത പൂക്കളെ  നമ്മൾ നോക്കിനിന്നെന്നു വരുമോ? കാഴ്ച്ച കിട്ടിയവർക്ക് മാത്രമാണ് ഇതെല്ലാം ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ ആവുന്നത്. അന്ധത ഉള്ളവർക്ക് നിറമേതെന്ന് അറിയാൻ ഒരു വഴിയില്ല. കാഴ്ച്ച ഉള്ളത് വലിയ ഒരനുഗ്രഹമാണ്. നിങ്ങൾക്ക് പരസഹായമില്ലാതെ പല കാര്യങ്ങളും ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റാതെപോകുമ്പോൾ, ഇരുട്ടിൽ വസ്തുവകകൾ പരതിനോക്കുമ്പോൾ,   നമുക്ക് കിട്ടിയ ഭാഗ്യത...

ദൈവത്തിൻ്റെ സ്വന്തം നാട് എന്ന് പരക്കെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രസിദ്ധമായ കാലടിയിലാണ് ഈ സംഭവം നടക്കുന്നത്. മിന്നൽ മുരളി എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ ചിത്രീകരണത്തിന് ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ അനുമതി വാങ്ങി അവിടെ ഒരു പള്ളി സെറ്റ് നിർമ്മിച്ചു. കോവിഡ് കാലത്ത് ഷൂട്ടിങ് നിയന്ത്രണം ആണല്ലോ. ആ സമയം മുതലാക്കി ആ സെറ്റ് അടിച്ചുതകർത്ത ശേഷം അതേപ്പറ്റി പേരും നമ്പറും സഹിതം ഫേസ്‌ബുക്കിൽ പോസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യണമെങ്കിൽ അതിൻ്റെ പിന്നിലെ ആളുകൾ ചില്ലറക്കാരായിരിക്കില്ലല്ലോ. ഒരു വലതുപക്ഷ സംഘടനയുടെ നേതാക്കൾ എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്ന ആളുകളാണ് 'ശിവൻ്റെ മണ്ണിൽ ഒരു പള്ളിക്ക് സ്ഥാനമില്ല' എന്നാഹ്വാനം ചെയ്‌തത്‌. കേരളത്തിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ കുറെ നാളുകളായി വലതുപക്ഷവിശ്വാസികളുടെ എണ്ണം പെരുകുകയാണ്. നാടിനെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള അഭിമാനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്ന് ഇവിടെ പ്രകടമായ മതമൈത്രിയാണ്. ഓണവും, ക്രിസ്മസും, റംസാനും നമുക്ക് ഒന്നുപോലെയാണ്. എന്നാൽ, ആളുകളെ ഭിന്നിപ്പിച്ചു സംഘടനയെ വളർത്തുന്നതാണ് അവരുടെ രീതി. പണ്ട് ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ഹിന്ദുക്കളെയും, മുസ്ലീങ്ങളെയും അകറ്റാൻ ഉപയോഗിച്ച അതെ മാർഗ്ഗം.   സംവാദം   ഒരു സാധാരണ സംഘിയോട് തർക്കിക്കാൻ  പോയാൽ സമയനഷ്ടമല്ലാതെ കാര്യമായി ഒര...
